Treating Each Person Differently and Treating the Whole Person

When you are seeking help for any medical condition it is important that your therapist is trying to understand how it affects your life as a whole, that they listen to your story and take you seriously. Too often we hear stories of people not being listened to by their medical practitioners or that their concerns are brushed aside.

Here at Maitland Wellness Centre we will try our very best to understand all your concerns. We firmly believe that each person is different and for any treatment to be successful we need to take this into account. This belief that everyone is unique is integral to the theory and practice of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine. There are patterns and similarities between patients that makes it possible to formulate functional medical theories but the practice of Acupuncture or any form of medicine needs to treat every person according to their specific make up.

Acupuncture and Massage also takes these differences into account by working with the body and tailoring each treatment according to what can be felt in the muscles and other tissues of the body.

Apart from the individual differences the other fundamental principle of our practice here at Maitland wellness Centre is that we are more than the sum of our parts. Modern medicine has achieved great results by being able to look into the microscopic details of our organs and tissues. What is often lost though is the rest of the person. At one level this means enquiring to what factors affects the problem and seeing if things can be improved with diet or exercises etc. At another level it acknowledges that things like a physical pain can have devastating effect on our mental and emotional wellbeing. By taking the time to listen to your problems in full our therapists are often able to help when other treatments have failed.
