Discover the Health Benefits of Tai Chi with Maitland Wellness Centre

Tai Chi is well known for it’s slow, flowing and relaxing movements. It was originally developed as a martial art but is better known today for it’s health benefits. There are a number or forms or variations of Tai Chi but they all share common principles.

The most common focus when practiced for health is on relaxation. The gentle movements of Tai Chi promotes stress reduction and are very calming for the brain and nervous system. The aim of Tai Chi is the relaxation of any tension whether physically or mentally.

The slow and gentle rhythm of the movements makes it ideal for people of all ages and capabilities. It is ideally suited to releasing the sore muscles and joints associated with arthritis and other painful conditions. Tai Chi is also great for reducing the aches and pains commonly associated with aging.  Tai Chi has also been shown to improve balance and coordination.

A number of studies on Tai Chi highlights the overall benefits to physical and mental well-being as reported by practitioners of all ages. The relaxation of Tai Chi practice can be of great benefit to any health condition (or life) that is negatively affected by stress.

At Maitland Wellness Centre Bjorn runs short courses teaching some of the underlying principle of Tai Chi through simple and easy to do exercises. With practice these exercises can be refined to include deeper aspects of Tai Chi to increase the health benefits.

A lot of people are happy just to learn some basic principles and exercises to help with a specific health problem while others go on to learn the full forms of Tai Chi incorporating these principles.
